The Wicked will Rise by Danielle Paige Release Date: March 31, 2015

Synopsis: In this dark, high-octane sequel to the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die, Amy Gumm must do everything in her power to kill Dorothy and free Oz.

To make Oz a free land again, Amy Gumm was given a mission: remove the Tin Woodman’s heart, steal the Scarecrow’s brain, take the Lion’s courage, and then Dorothy must die….

But Dorothy still lives. Now the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked has vanished, and mysterious Princess Ozma might be Amy’s only ally. As Amy learns the truth about her mission, she realizes that she’s only just scratched the surface of Oz’s past—and that Kansas, the home she couldn’t wait to leave behind, may also be in danger. In a place where the line between good and evil shifts with just a strong gust of wind, who can Amy trust—and who is really Wicked?

My Thoughts:  I am not a huge fan of the covers of this series, but that does not mean that I do not like them. I think they serve their purpose. They reveal enough about the story, but leave some a mystery, just enough to keep me interested. I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series. I am so excited for the release of this book. I cannot wait to see how twisted this world can really become. It was so creepy and magical in the first book. I am really hoping that it is the same in this book. Is anyone else excited for this book? Or has anyone had a chance to get an early copy? If so, what did you think? I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this book.  Last, but not least, what is on your Wishlist Wednesday? I would love to know. Leave me a comment down below letting me know which books you are excited for this year!

Wishlist Wednesday # 5

Once again I forgot about posting last week, because I have been so busy with work. So this week I am going to post 2 books that are on my wishlist.

Wishlist Wednesday hosted by Pen to Paper is a book blog hop in which you post about one book per week that has been on your wishlist for a while or  that was just recently added (entirely up to you) that you cannot wait to add to your shelves.

Wishlist # 1: Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz

THE_DARK_HOUSE_CAROUSEL_TK_5 SynopsisWhat’s your worst nightmare?

For Ivy Jensen, it’s the eyes of a killer that haunt her nights. For Parker Bradley, it’s bloodthirsty sea serpents that slither in his dreams.

And for seven essay contestants, it’s their worst nightmares that win them an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at director Justin Blake’s latest, confidential project. Ivy doesn’t even like scary movies, but she’s ready to face her real-world fears. Parker’s sympathetic words and perfect smile help keep her spirits up. . . at least for now.

Not everyone is so charming, though. Horror-film fanatic Garth Vader wants to stir up trouble. It’s bad enough he has to stay in the middle of nowhere with this group—the girl who locks herself in her room; the know-it-all roommate; “Mister Sensitive”; and the one who’s too cheery for her own good. Someone has to make things interesting.

Except, things are already a little weird. The hostess is a serial-killer look-alike, the dream-stealing Nightmare Elf is lurking about, and the seventh member of the group is missing.

By the time Ivy and Parker realize what’s really at stake, it’s too late to wake up and run

Today I went to Barnes and Noble while my husband was at work and I saw this cover from across the store and I was like “OOOO What is this?” So, I went over picked it up read the synopsis and I was intrigued. Then I decided to read a couple of pages and  put it down. So, as I continued to look around the store I could not get this book out of my head. I went back over picked it back up and started reading. Needless to say, I read 138 pages of it at the store. Now I want the book oh so badly. I was not able to purchase it today, but it is now on my birthday list. What I love about this book, thus far, is it is different from any book I have read, but it is something that everyone is familiar with. This book is like a campy horror movie (which is something I love). I am thinking that I have Thursday off from work that I may go back to Barnes and Noble and read a little more. Also, I thought this book was a stand alone book, it’s not!!! In the summer of 2015 the sequel will be released.

Wishlist # 2: The Queen of Zombie Hearts (White Rabbit Chronicles #3) By Gena Showalter

9780373211319_p0_v4_s600 Synopsis: (IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST OR THE SECOND BOOK DO NOT READ THE SYNOPSIS IT DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS).

I have a plan.

We’ll either destroy them for good, or they’ll destroy us.

Either way, only one of us is walking away.

Alice ‘Ali’ Bell thinks the worst is behind her. She’s ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers; until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It’s then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters; and the worst has only begun.

As the surviving slayers prepare for war, Ali discovers she, too, can control the zombies and she isn’t the girl she thought she was. She’s connected to the woman responsible for killing and turning Cole’s mother. How can their relationship endure? As secrets come to light, and more slayers are taken or killed, Ali will fight harder than ever to bring down Anima even sacrificing her own life for those she loves

I have only read the first one and I absolutely loved it! I own the second one and I need to own the third book when it is released on September 30, 2014 (Not to far away!!!). I did a review for  Alice in Zombieland earlier in my blog if you want to check it out. Be aware that it does contain a small amount of spoilers. Nothing major, but I know for some people it would spoil it for them. After I finish the book I am currently reading I am planing on reading the second book in the series so that I will be all caught up for the release of the third.

If anyone has read either of these books, please let me know what you thought in the comments below. Also, as always, I want to know what is on your wishlist! Leave me a comment letting me know!

Dorothy Must Die Full Review

Dorothy

Cover: I am not in love with this cover. I like it. For me, there is just something missing. I am not sure what it is, but it is lacking something. However, once the dust jacket is off the book itself is intriguing.

Synopsis:

I didn’t ask for any of this.
I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a yellow brick road—but even that’s crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas.

I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.

I’ve been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.

ill write a full review for this book.

My Thoughts:  OMG!!! This book was freaking AMAZING! I love the fact that this is  a twisted classic. So, this book follows Amy Gumm, who in the real world is considered a loser. She lives a horrible life. No friends and a Mom who is not really present in her life. The only thing that she does have  is a rat named Star who she hates. One day Amy comes home after a fight at school and is swept up by a tornado and taken to Oz. However, Oz is nothing like the movies make it out to be. It used to be beautiful and glorious, but now it is dilapidated and falling apart.  This is all due to the fact that Dorothy has taken over and is stealing all of the magic. Everything is twisted and nightmarish. The lines between good and evil are seriously blurred in this book. Amy is recruited by the Order of the Wicked and given the task of killing Dorothy. If you have not read this book I would absolutely recommend it. On good reads I rated this book a five out of five stars.

Dorothy Must Die Chapters 1-12.

Dorothy

I just finished reading the first 3 chapters of this book. I think they are releasing 3 more chapters later today.  Lately, I have been enjoying books like these. I like how they take a classic story and make it their own.

Cover: I must say that the cover has me intrigued. It is not the most beautiful cover out there, but I feel like it is interesting enough to make me want to read this. Now I am only basing this off of this picture as the book has yet to be released and I have not seen a physical copy.

Review Chapters 1-3: Amy Gumm lives a sad life. When she was a little girl her father left and her mother was in an accident. Now her mother lives in her pajamas and takes pills and spends her time drinking her life away. At school she is known as trash or salvation army because Madison Pendelton said that she is dirty and if you associate with Amy than you are dirty just like her. I feel sad for Amy. Having no friends and someone who is consistently bullying you is no way to live. Since I have not read past the first 3 chapters, I cannot say much more than her life sucks. I would not want to be in her shoes. For now, at the end of the third chapter it left me with a bit of curiosity. I am curious to see how this story progresses. I may in fact read the next 3 chapters later today. If I enjoy the next set of chapters, I may continue reading it. We shall see. If you are interested in reading more about Amy Gumm, please click on the link. Dorothy Must Die.  Enjoy!

Chapters 4-6: Chapters 4-6 can be found here Dorthy Must Die Chapters 4-6.  Imagine that Oz is a dilapidated place. Everything is crumbling down. It is not as magnificent as it used to be. Power hungry Dorothy has taken over. What?? This is crazy! Everything that you think is good in the Wizard of Oz is in fact not. I am really enjoying this book. I don’t know if I can wait until April to find out what happens. I may have to pop back in every day to get to read 3 chapters more. While this is not the best writing in the world, the story is intriguing. I like the premise of the story. I like the fact that everything you think is good is in fact bad. Oh and the perma-smile that is some messed up creepy stuff. I am excited to see what is in store for the rest of this book. This is in fact a twisted play on a classic.

Chapters 7-9: Here is the link for the next 3 chapters. Dorothy must die Chapter 7-9. OMG!!! This story is insane. It is totally twisted and I love it. What more can I say without giving too much away. You just have to read it. Amy during the course of her journey in Oz has made 2 friends Indigo (whom I like very much) and Ollie a wingless monkey. Ollie and his people (monkey’s) have been through quite a bit and I feel sorry for them. It is sad to see anyone as a slave, even if they are evil winged monkeys. Ollie is wingless for a reason and there are others like him. Put it this way, he is wingless because it goes against the happiness decree. What is the happiness decree you might ask? Well, I am not going to tell you. You are going to have to read this and find out yourself. Oh and I take back what I said about the perma-smile being the creepiest thing in the book; it is the Tin woodman and his army.I really love the way the author describes Oz and the way the characters are navigating through it. While this book is more on the demented side I do think that the author paints a good picture of what has happened to Oz and its inhabitants. Like I have said on numerous occasions this book is a true Twisted Classic and what more could someone ask for.

Chapters 10-12: Chapters 10-12 will be available to read tomorrow at this website Dorothy must Die Chapters 10-12. I just finished the last 3 chapters they made available and OMG! I do not think I can wait until April 1st for this book to come out. In these last few chapters we meet a few new characters and well I like them. They are of the wicked variety (at least in the original story), but in this version they are still “wicked” but more helpful on the side of good. So all in all, I am super excited to finish this book when it comes out in April. Once I finish I will write a full review for this book.

Alice in Zombieland

Alice in ZombielandAlice Bell has lost everything. Truth Be told I am only a quarter of the way done with this book and it is such a gut wrenching story. When I first picked up this book I thought that it was going to be one of those play on the classics (Such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) but I was wrong. The White Rabbit Chronicles is so different from what I had imagined it to be. Within the first few pages I was hooked. A few chapters in I was in tears. I am excited to finish it and tell you what the rest of the story has in store.

***UPDATE****.

I am a bit of a cover freak. I love a book with a beautiful cover and I have to say that I love this cover. I love the textures and the art work. I also love the inside of the hardcover book. If you have not had a chance to just check out the hardcover version of this book I would recommend that you do so.

Book Review: Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Synopsis: She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I’d tell my sister no.
I’d never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I’d zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I’d hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I’d tell them I love them.
I wish… Yeah, I wish.

Review: Alice is Zombieland is completely different than I thought that it was going to be. I totally thought it was going to be a play on the classic Alice in Wonderland with zombies. However, it was not. This book started out so gut wrenchingly sad. Alice’s father is a peculiar man. He is so afraid of these monsters that he sees (which no one else can) that he does not let his family leave the house at night, and he will not go near the graveyard. However, one night Alice convinces the father to let them go out at night and that is when her whole life changes. Everything she loves is ripped away from her. While lying in the car, near death herself, she sees them. The monsters her father wanted to so desperately to keep his family safe from were real. **Spoiler Alert**Now the zombies in this book are not like the living, walking, flesh eating dead you would think them to be, they are incorporeal.  These zombies only exist in the spirit realm and live and feed off of the souls of those who can see them.  The only way to defend themselves against these monsters is to fight them, but to do so they must use a form of astral projection and disconnect from their physical bodies.  Alice does not know how to do this on her own; actually she does not even know any of this until she meets Cole.

Oh, what do I say about Cole? I must say that I had a bit of a fangirling moment when I was introduced to Cole.  He is your token bad boy. Constantly in trouble and every girl in school thinks he is hot, but because of his bad side they are afraid of him. Of course Alice is smitten with him. However, her new friend Kat (she met while she was in the hospital) warns her to stay away from him. But does Alice heed this warning…. NO! Of course not! Why would she and why would we want her too. It would not be a complete story without some sort of forbidden love story. Alice does try to stay away, but she just can’t fight the feelings that she has for him. And of course Cole has secrets that he has to hide from her in order to protect her….

All in all this was an amazing book. I would recommend this book to someone to read. However, if you are expecting this book to be a play on the classic, then you are going to be disappointed. But if you expect nothing more than a gut wrenching incorporeal zombie filled love story than get ready for the ride of your life.
